Magnetic interactions in supramolecular N-O...H-C[triple bond]C-type hydrogen-bonded nitronylnitroxide radical chains
Article Abstract:
The synthesis and crystallization of two paramagnetic building blocks, 2(4-ethynyl-1-phenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl and 2-(5-ethynyl-2-pyridyl)-4,,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl, are presented. The studies have shown the formation of supramolecular head-to-tail one-dimensional H-bonded, N-O...H-C[triple bond]C-type, chain structures with O...C and have confirmed the intermolecular spin polarization from the nitronylnitroxide radical group to the acetylenic proton.

N+NO reaction on Rh(111) surfaces studied with fast near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy: Role of NO dimer as an extrinsic precursor
Article Abstract:
The mechanism of N+NO reaction on Rh(111) surfaces was studied by means of fast near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. It is found that an extrinsic precursor formed on the chemisorbed N+NO layer reacts with atomic N to form [N.sub.2]O. Direct observation of the NO dimer contributing to the reaction may support the possibility the NO dimers are involved as reaction precursors in many NO related reactions.

Orientation dependence of electric field effects on the g factor of nitroxides measured by 220 GHz EPR
Article Abstract:
The application of quasioptical 220 GHz EPR to resolve anisotropic local electric field effects on the g tensor of two model nitroxides with internal ionizable groups, one anionic and the other cationic is reported. The calibration shows that nitroxide probes are sensitive to field magnitudes that are typically found in protein, and may be sensitive to the orientation of the local field as well as its magnitude.
